Bridging the Divided

Rainy Days…..

“You have to accept the storms and the rainy days and the things in life that you sometimes don’t want to face.” Bai Ling.

The Bible says the rain falls on the just and the unjust. It’s true. No one escapes hardship. We equate rain and storms with difficult times, don’t we? And yet, rain and storms bring renewal, wash the earth, quench the thirst of the arid soil. Rain helps plants and trees grow. Without rain, plants and trees dry up, become brittle, are unable to withstand the wind.

Rain and storms have a purpose. They nurture and teach us truths about resilience, about God. When we can accept there will be rains and storms in our lives, we will dig our roots in deeper and trust the rains will pass. We learn we can bend and sway with the wind until the sun shines anew.

I believe there is something bigger than us, a Creator responsible for the universe and beyond. I don’t believe in the Big Bang Theory exclusively but I can incorporate the possibility into my belief in Divine Love, of God. God, in my mind and understanding, is orderly, creative, loving, and merciful, so I believe God can use the collision of atoms that split and unite forming matter. It makes sense. It also makes sense that God uses the familiar to teach us about Divine Love, to teach us trust and faith, to show us that rains and storms will come, the sun will shine again, and we will survive.

We don’t face the rains and storms of life alone. God is with us and mercifully provided others who will stand with us until the rain subsides…..
