It’s Christmas Eve. Remember when we were kids and we couldn’t wait till Christmas Eve and Santa’s arrival? The excitement was almost too much to bear, settling down to sleep nearly impossible, and then in the blink of an eye, Christmas morning arrived.
For many this year, Christmas doesn’t feel like Christmas. The lights on the tree don’t seem to twinkle as brightly, many will not be home to celebrate with their families, the ghost of Christmas Past taunts us with the joy we once felt at Christmastime. Alas, Christmas has been overshadowed by the pandemic. What hasn’t the pandemic overshadowed this year? And yet, in spite of it all, we can be grateful.
In truth, the pandemic has done us a favor. The hustle and bustle of the holidays in years past left us little time to focus on what matters, on who matters. Take a moment today to be grateful, to thank God for every breath our families and friends take, for video chats to keep us in contact with loved ones who cannot join us this year, for the people and pets in our lives that kept us going despite the challenges and hardships. And then, take a moment to pray for those who lost family and friends to a virus we had never heard of one short year ago, pray for those spending Christmas in hospitals and long-term care facilities, pray for those with whom we are estranged.
Christmas is different this year, but there is still much to be grateful for…..
Merry Christmas from our family to yours!
