Bridging the Divided

Waiting To Greet Us…..

“If there are no dogs in Heaven, then when I die, I want to go where they went.” Will Rogers

Billy Graham said something similar when he was asked if dogs would be in Heaven. Mr. Graham said, “God will prepare everything for our perfect happiness in Heaven, and it if takes my dog being there, I believe he will be there.” He went on to say that dogs never sin, so why wouldn’t God allow them into Heaven. His quote was used as a springboard to encourage people to ensure they were granted access to Heaven by accepting Jesus as their Savior. I believe dogs will be there regardless.

Much has been written about dogs being in Heaven, and why not? Those of us who love dogs and share our lives with them do not want to face eternity without them. Dogs live short lives on the earth, but in their short time on earth, they give us so much that is worthy of Heaven. Every day our dogs teach and remind us of simple truths that we forget in the day to day busyness of life. Especially now, in the unprecedented times of 2020, the year we all wish were over.

Dogs help us to keep life in perspective. They don’t care who the president is, about the political wranglings that dominate the news. They don’t care about keeping up with the Jones’, about being the first on the block with the newest, hottest iPhone. They don’t care if we live in a three-room shack or in a mansion.

Dogs care about us. Our dogs will sit with us and comfort us when we are anxious, ill, or sad. They love being with us no matter where we are; in the backyard, in the car, watching a favorite television program, or in the bathroom. Dogs love us no matter what, even when people in our own families, workplaces, neighborhoods, or in the world are against us. Their loyalty knows no bounds, their compassion has depth that could put most to shame. Dogs would give their lives to protect us from any danger. Dogs are worthy of Heaven. In comparison, perhaps we should be asking ourselves if we are worthy of Heaven? One thing I do know; when we get to Heaven, our dogs will be there waiting to greet us…..
