Love is blind. Love does not see race, color, ethnicity, gender, or sexual orientation. All lives matter, period. The recent civil unrest and the tragic event leading to the violent protests and riots sicken me to the core of my being. I have seen this behavior too many times in my lifetime. It is difficult to believe in 2020 race, color, ethnicity, gender, and sexual orientation divide us. Inequality is ugly. Bullying others because of personal disagreement with others is ugly. Hatred is ugly.
We are all the same on the inside. We are all extensions of Divine Love, of God who has no race, color, ethnicity, gender, or sexual orientation. Love sees beyond it all. Inequality, bullying, and hatred only see the outside.
How do we fix this mess? There is no easy answer, but we must stop the posturing, the rhetoric, the Bible-thumping, the generalizations, and listen to each other, to see others from the inside out. People need to feel heard and seen, on both sides of any argument.
I have friends who are black, white, Hispanic, Asian, male, female, gay, and lesbian. I see them as humans with needs and wants, desires, hopes, and dreams.
One of our daughters is engaged to be married to her best friend who happens to be a female. The primary families on both sides are thrilled for these two beautiful, intelligent, creative, talented, and compassionate women. Some extended family members have taken issue with their relationship based on deeply-rooted archaic mindsets, and would rather severe all ties than accept these two women for who they are, extensions of Divine Love. I do not understand cutting off one’s nose to spite their face, a metaphor I find apt.
Bias will continue to flourish as long as we allow it. Racism, sexism, chauvinism, homophobias will exist as long as we allow personal opinions to usurp loving and accepting people for who they are on the inside and not judging them for what cannot be changed. People of color cannot change to suit our personal preference for one race over another, women cannot become men to suit archaic mindsets that women are inferior, people of varying ethnicities cannot change their cultures and customs because we consider ours superior, people cannot change who they love because we choose religious belief over biology. Do we need to agree with the personal opinions of others? Certainly not. But, slandering, criticizing, hate-mongering, and violence gets us nowhere…..
