Sticks and Stones…..

It has been said there is no such thing as bad publicity. Maybe, maybe not. At the very least, anyone taking the time to make a negative comment has taken the time to read a controversial piece. I have said many times in the past I don’t expect everyone to agree with me, in fact, it would concern me if they did. Learning from one another, keeping an open mind, and allowing differences of opinion is important.

Having said that, I received a comment from a reader who said I was “Marxist”, although this person spelled it wrong; and this person described me as a bigot trying to sway people away from the Bible, to sin, and get people to break their bonds with God…..their words, not mine. I appreciate the fact this person took the time to read. I am going to assume this person identifies as a “Christian”, however, by all appearances is not “Christ-like” in the least. Funny how that works! I could fire back, spew negative words and criticisms, but I will not. Why get involved in a superficial war of jibs and judgments? We could have an intelligent conversation, agree to disagree, speak from the heart, share ideas and thoughts, we could even learn from one another, but it seems unlikely. Sadly, people like this person are plentiful in our world; hatemongers consumed by anger, their hearts wounded by experiences that have scarred and destroyed appreciation for others and opposing opinions.

For the record, above all, I believe in God. There is a vast difference between spirituality and religion; spirituality seeks to know God, to understand, to walk in Divine Love. Religion follows manmade rules designed to control others, to dominate, to create God in the image of man instead of the other way around. I prefer to be spiritual, to journey with God as a unique creation and not as a cookie-cutter follower reciting rote prayers and memorized scripture. Mankind was endowed with intelligence, the ability to think beyond the information taken in by the five senses. God designed mankind to use his intelligence, to gain wisdom, to ask questions, to interact with the rest of creation and learn from it. Yeshua (Jesus), God in the flesh of man, walked the Judean hillside teaching people to look beyond their five senses, to love when it was hard, to forgive when it seemed impossible, to understand the power and wisdom of God reside within.

God made man in His likeness, the embodiment of all that love is and He gifted mankind with free-will, the ability to choose his actions, reactions, thoughts, and behaviors. God operates from free-will and chooses love every time, man does not and for the most part, free-will has proven the ruin of mankind.

The oft-recited childhood chant, ‘sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me’, isn’t entirely true but it is a good concept. Sometimes words do hurt. Obviously, my words touched a nerve that set off a storm of hate-speak.  Am I a Marxist and a bigot? No, I am not. Do I get it right every time? No, I do not. I am open to discussion, thoughts, ideas, to sharing and receiving wisdom, to learning from others. We would learn so much more from one another if we did all from a spirit of love…..

    • Response accepted. I believe God loves all people – not necessarily all things people do or think, but He loves the person, His creation. The Bible has been revised and massaged by man down through the centuries – it is replete with man’s opinions and they are not necessarily God’s words. There are many forms of religious expression and doctrine – Catholicism is only one and not the right one for every person. We are called to journey with God – how we do it is up to us. Not everything will resonate with everyone. I was raised in a liberal church and as an adult was part of the charismatic movement – I cannot abide by either extreme. God is love and we need to run all we say and do past the lens of love – I may not agree with everything people choose to do, but I choose to love in spite of their choices. I suspect we have more in common than what separates us. Thank you for reading, thank you for writing. God bless you and yours.

    I encourage you attend a Catholic Mass and If possible, a sung solemn Mass in Latin. If you search on internet long enough you will find one in your area, be warned it is most amazing experience in Christianity. The following is a prayer that was taught to me from the day I was born.

    Apostles Creed.

    I believe in God,
    the Father Almighty,
    Creator of heaven and earth,
    and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord,
    who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
    born of the Virgin Mary,
    suffered under Pontius Pilate,
    was crucified, died and was buried;
    He descended into hell;
    on the third day He rose again from the dead;
    He ascended into heaven,
    and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
    from there He will come to judge the living and the dead.
    I believe in the Holy Spirit,
    the Holy Catholic Church,
    the communion of Saints,
    the forgiveness of sins,
    the resurrection of the body,
    and life everlasting.

    • Hi again….like I said I am very familiar with the varieties of church out there and very familiar with the Apostle’s Creed – have recited it many times in my youth as a part of a protestant church and at times as an adult in a variety of settings. I applaud your support of the Catholic Church and your zeal for its doctrines and tenets. I believe everyone needs a way to connect with God, but your way, nor another’s way is not everyone’s way. Yeshua did not have a church building while He roamed the Judean countryside, nor did He advocate for a specific set of doctrines. True, He spoke in the synagogue at times, but His ministry was to the people wherever they may have been. I have had many Catholic friends, have discussed scripture with priests and pastors alike, and respected each of their views and opinions as they did and do mine. I respect your views and opinions. I am glad you journey with God in a way that resonates so strongly with you. God is everywhere and speaks to all who have ears to hear. Have a blessed day!

    Interested to hear which demonination or christian organisation you are apart of. Finding it difficult to take you seriously. I know you said you are more spiritual and more liberal, sounds like there is just an effort to ‘inject’ progressive politics into Christinaity to water down people understanding of it.

    • I was raised United Church of Christ – as an adult was a member of an Assembly of God and attended other charismatic churches – in other words non-denominational. I didn’t say I was liberal. I am a staunch pro-lifer – have worked with pro-life groups through the years and was a founding member of a pro-life group in our area to help women who need help and are pregnant but choose not to abort. I am spiritual and not in the least political. I don’t care about politics and consider most politicians less than honest with little integrity. You have your views and I have mine and neither of us is completely wrong, nor completely right. We are both on a journey with God in our own way. If you have read any of my blogs you know I am a domestic abuse survivor. The church and the Bible take an anti-divorce stance – how can you defend that? A large part of the reason I stayed in the marriage so long was because of the church telling me to pray harder, have more faith, etc. I finally realized it was not my responsibility to change my husband – he chose his own behaviors and no amount of prayer or faith on my part was going to change that. The church tends to put blame on the victims in these cases instead of changing their teachings. Over the years I have talked with many women who have come out of abusive relationships and some who are still in them – some are pastors wives. Many of them have been influenced by the church teachings on divorce and are afraid to leave for fear of what the church will think and fear they will be going against God. No one should fear leaving an abusive relationship because of what the church thinks or fear they are sinning – that is rubbish. If you have a daughter would you want her to stay in any relationship that was abusive simply because the church and the Bible are against divorce? I appreciate your strong advocacy for Catholicism and the Bible as it is written, but not everyone, nor will everyone be on board with you – and shouldn’t be expected to follow along. There is room in this world for varying thoughts and opinions. I am sorry you think it is difficult to take me seriously – I find you narrow-minded but am willing to engage in conversation with you without mud-slinging and snap judgments when you know so little about me except what you choose to believe about me. Jesus taught love – where is the love that would make me want to join you in your beliefs?

    • Thank you – I am familiar with Romans and Paul’s teachings. The particular section you reference is full of hatred. Who defines wickedness? I find many of Paul’s writings arrogant – is he included in the wicked who don’t know God? If you are referencing homosexuals, I know many who love God with all their minds, hearts and spirits – minister and serve tirelessly while many “Christians” sit in their glass houses and throw stones. If you are also referencing those who don’t believe as you do, I will offer the words of Jesus “Let he who is without sin cast the first stone”. While Jesus was alive He was asked what was the greatest commandment? His answer was to love the Lord your God with all your mind, with all your heart, and with all your strength and to love your neighbor as yourself. Jesus said in this way the law would be fulfilled. All else is man’s opinion.

    yeah but he did not have crazed blue haired leftist feminists running around, anti fa beating up old people, islamic terrorists, mass media, universities funded by foreign sources trying to undermine western culture, abortionists, 900 genders to contend with, mass brainwashing, fake news, corrupt environmentalists, globalist invented fake climate change, fake Christians trying to scam money from people. Understanding he did have to deal with enemies and spent most his short life in exile. the Romans verses i was quoting was very prophetic of the future about what sin does to people. Warning of the devil lurking around all the time. Not sure it is hatred. Type into youtube, If i were the devil. it is video of what is going on.

    • Perhaps, but we are also far more saturated in the evils of the world because of the vast amount of technology and communication available to us that Jesus did not have in His day. I doubt much has changed since Jesus walked among the sinners and saints except for the amount of technology and communication. All of the above existed – Pharisees were scamming people, corrupt governments thrived, abortions occurred, terrorism existed and will continue to exist for as long as the earth spins on its axis. Proportionally it hasn’t likely changed much and only seems that way because of the population numbers we have today vs in Jesus’ day. Evil exists alongside good and always will. Our attitude and response to it will determine which has the upper hand. The more energy evil is given in terms of attention the more it will thrive and the opposite is true. I prefer to focus on what is good and not the evil that has existed alongside mankind since the origins of time. Philippians 4:8 reminds us to think on these things…..whatever is true, noble, righteous, pure etc…. Whatever we give power to will rise. If more Christians and followers of Divine Love focused their time and energy on what is good instead of what is evil the tides of change would come. It is what Jesus taught…..

    exactly, look at Trudeaus globalist hell hole. awash with drugs and crime. Immigrants come and go as they please and has laxed Canadas once harsh immigration laws. He condones and exports abortion world wide and funds it with public money… why on earth would any ‘Christian’ would do that is beyond me? Allows propaganda to spread to the public funded media, while the rest of world paints him as some type of ‘model’ for the future. Western countruies are quickly being destroyed by design and largely funded/assisted by the Chinese, the UN and middle east tyrants and other donors stealing our money for this evils. Looks at bill and melinda gates, george soros, the pink vote, the kochs, and uses useful idiots to destract us with media filled with mindless rubbish. all was predicted in both new and old testament, allowing ourselves to turn other cheek and offer the other and evil people using Chrisitan morals and teaching us to be submissive to liars and desivers must end. Jesus never really taught us to accept people if they are corrupt or corrupting us or the youth. He did turn over the money lenders and kicked their butts outta of temple. there was an old video from a churhc in Texas were the democratic candidate.. I forget her name.. the author. got the parisshioners to apologise to all african americans for slavery… like that is just plain rude. most people did not arrive in texas until post world war one and two. not many people lived there and now she says they caused slavery and apologoize? this is gender and idenity politics on crack and victimology? none of this is Christian teaching .

    • What is your definition of Christianity? What would our world look like through the eyes of the Jesus you worship? I’m being serious so please consider the questions seriously. Have a blessed and peaceful day.
