The Love Chapter…..

We have a choice; to be clanging cymbals and blaring brass or live from the Divine Love Energy from which we were created.

“I may speak in the tongues of men, even angels; but if I lack love, I have become merely blaring brass or a cymbal clanging. I may have the gift of prophecy, I may fathom all mysteries, know all things, have all faith – enough to move mountains; but if I lack love, I am nothing.  I may give away everything that I own, I may even hand over my body to be burned; but if I lack love, I gain nothing. Love is patient and kind, not jealous, not boastful, not proud, rude or selfish, not easily angered, and it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not gloat over other people’s sins but takes its delight in the truth.  Love always bears up, always trusts, always hopes, always endures. Love never ends; but prophecies will pass, tongues will cease, knowledge will pass. For our knowledge is partial, and our prophecy partial;  but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass. When I was a child, I spoke like a child, thought like a child, argued like a child; now that I have become a man, I have finished with childish ways. For now we see obscurely in a mirror, but then it will be face to face. Now I know partly; then I will know fully, just as God has fully known me. But for now, three things last trust, hope, love; and the greatest of these is love.” (I Corinthians 13 The Complete Jewish Bible)

Undoubtedly most of us know or at least have heard all or portions of I Corinthians 13, known as the “Love Chapter” by many Christians. As an ordained minister I have certainly quoted parts of this chapter during wedding ceremonies. Sometimes we overlook the most obvious, simple things in life, and so it was when the words believed to be penned by Paul, previously known as Saul, came to mind during a moment of meditation.

Love is the foundation, the basis of everything in the created universe. Divine Source Energy, or God if you will, is love energy in its purest form. We are created from Divine Love Energy as there was nothing else from which to create. We are the embodiment and the extension of Divine Love Energy on the earth.

The church would have us believe this chapter is exclusively theirs but is it? To whom do the descriptions refer if not scientists, psychics, the spiritually in-tune, martyrs, and all manner of humanity? The chapter includes all people regardless of the path chosen for life’s journey with or without God. The point is if we cannot, will not, do not act from the essence of our being, our higher self, our God-self, nothing else matters. We can discover the cure for cancer, be a modern-day Nostradamus, deliver effective sermons or live our lives in meditation on a mountaintop, and all will be for naught without love. One day all we have worked toward will pass away, will be gone in the blink of an eye like a dandelion in the wind.

When we were born or incarnated on the earth, however one chooses to believe, we were born having forgotten we originated from Divine Love Energy. While we breathe our purpose is to rediscover who we are, rediscover our origins and once rediscovered, to live the love from which we came. That’s easier said than done, right? Not everyone we encounter on a day to day basis is loveable, nor are many of our family members. Each of these unloveable and difficult-to-love people is in our lives for a purpose; to bring out the love we are to live.

For the spiritually minded who believe in reincarnation, the theory is prior to reincarnating we chose to enter into a contract with those who will be in our lives. Some will be adversarial in nature whose purpose is to bring forth, hone, and shape the love within us. Armed with this theory it doesn’t make living with people who have an adversarial bent any easier, however. It is to the practice of love, not the knowledge I Corinthians 13 refers. Knowing is the easy part, putting the knowledge into practice presents much more challenge; the point Paul is making.

Love is much more than a feeling. And, it is certainly one of the more overused words in our society. So overused is the word ‘love’ it has lost its meaning and morphed into the stuff of Valentine cards and words that fly off the tongue far too easily. Love is an action, and we have heard this preached on many fronts, as well, but the question is, do we believe and practice love?

The primary love relationship we must refine is love for self, and I am not referring to an egotistical relationship with self. When unable to acknowledge that we are enough, we are loved and therefore loveable, we cannot love others since the source of the love we extend toward others begins within. True self-love is an acceptance of ourselves as an extension of Divine Love Energy. Throwing around the word ‘love’ without the benefit of first loving and accepting self results in what Paul describes as “blaring brass and clanging cymbals”; in other words, noise. Noise can be irritating, and eventually, we learn to tune it out. And, that’s what happens when we speak words of love from a spirit devoid of the knowledge that we are extensions of Divine Love Energy.

Words of love spoken from spirits who have acknowledged they are extensions of Divine Love Energy are transmitting that love to others at a vibrational frequency others receive, or pick up, and the receivers actually feel the energy of Divine Love. Many have had the experience of being told by another they are loved and actually experienced the depth of that love. Conversely, many more of us have experienced empty words of love from others, and on some level, we are aware the words are just noise, but so eager are we to be loved we accept the empty words. The difference is subtle, yet we are aware and usually have little idea how to articulate the difference. Some have described the feeling from transmitters of Divine Love Energy as a person “who gets me” or “sees into my soul”; as accurate a description as we are afforded with our language limitations to describe things of the Spirit.

So much is wrapped up in this teaching from scripture we pull out for wedding ceremonies, then neatly tuck away until the next appropriate occasion. Acknowledging, then embracing we are extensions of Divine Love Energy is the core, the foundation, the essence of the Law of Attraction and creating our realities. It is from this core we are able to manifest goodness in our lives; the goodness most of us craves and have no idea how to get. Living life from the core knowledge that we are loved and extensions of Divine Love Energy colors everything in our world differently. We become what love is: patient, kind, not boastful selfish, or jealous, slow to anger and quick to forgive, not proud or rude, delighting in truth, bearing up through the power of love, always trusting, hoping and enduring to the extent it is possible while living as fallible humans in an imperfect world. God is the fullness of all of these things and to this fullness will we return. Until then, we have the opportunity to live love to the best of our ability from the core knowledge that we are loved and are extensions of the Divine Love Energy; in other words, we know in part and see through the glass darkly, but one day we will return to the fullness of who we are. We are extensions of Divine Love Energy…..
